Jazzmyn RED is an award-winning artist, educator, and Arts Integration and Equity Leader whose work bridges cultural expression, social justice, and educational transformation. Rooted in Massachusetts, she has built an internationally recognized career that integrates MC skills, Hip Hop pedagogy, critical multicultural education, and community-based leadership.

A fierce advocate for youth voice and educational equity, Jazzmyn served as a U.S. Hip Hop and Cultural Exchange Ambassador through the U.S. Department of State’s Next Level Program in the United Arab Emirates. During this residency, she taught and performed in community and educational spaces and, alongside her team, appeared at prestigious events such as Expo Dubai 2020 and Berklee Abu Dhabi. Her work abroad, as much as at home, centers the role of the arts in building cultural bridges, fostering resilience, and driving social transformation across diverse communities.

Jazzmyn is the creator of The Hip Hop is GENIUS Experience, a workshop series that explores the dynamic relationship between Black music, social justice movements, and identity development. This program, presented at renowned institutions including Harvard University, integrates music, storytelling, and social-emotional learning to cultivate critical consciousness and strengthen community connection. Her instructional framework, known as The RED Lens, emphasizes being Rooted in student voice and historical truth, Expressive in vulnerability and cultural wealth, and Disruptive to inequitable systems—guiding educators and learners toward more inclusive and transformative experiences.

In 2025, Jazzmyn delivered her TEDx talk titled Hip Hop is GENIUS, which highlights Hip Hop’s intellectual contributions, its capacity to support emotional regulation, and its potential as a tool for collective healing and empowerment. She has been featured in major media outlets including The Boston Globe, NPR, NBC, and the Huffington Post. Over the course of her career, she has performed on more than 200 stages worldwide, sharing lineups with influential artists such as KRS-One, Jadakiss, and Joyner Lucas.

Growing up in Massachusetts with Cape Verdean, Middle Eastern, and Irish roots, Jazzmyn’s personal experience navigating the complexities of cultural identity and systemic inequities within education inspired her lifelong dedication to advancing both local and global equity initiatives. Her early career was shaped by deep community engagement, including two residencies at the United African Alliance Community Center in Arusha, Tanzania, founded by original members of the Kansas Chapter of the Black Panther Party. These formative experiences reinforced her belief in the arts as a vital tool for liberation and social justice.

Jazzmyn’s discography reflects her commitment to using art as a vehicle for social change. Her debut album, Writing HERstory (2017), garnered multiple regional music awards, while her 2020 release, REDvolution, commemorated the 55th anniversary of the Voting Rights Act. This work coincided with her role as the music artist representative for Black Ballot Power, a national, nonpartisan campaign aimed at increasing Black voter participation.

Her mission is deeply personal as well. She honors the legacy of her mentor and friend, Carlos “Loko Los” Rivera—a fellow artist whose influence continues to shape her dedication to mentoring young creatives and advocating for justice. His unsolved murder underscores her belief in the power of art to confront violence, affirm resilience, and create spaces for healing and community restoration.
